Thought about how I could make the body and after browsing around the local home DIY store I noticed these cardboard tubes meant for concrete to be poured into when making foundations.
With a set of cardboard tubes of differing sizes I started cutting them up to make arms legs and a body.
I then covered the surface with plaster bandages (to cover gaps).
Finally I covered it all in paper mache.
The head
Starting with a toy helmet I built out the size of Gorts head.
This was built up with newspaper glue and filler, until there were many layers.
